Beginning around 1980, the Shimano "Freehub" largely replaced the conventional threaded rear hub.
It is sad to lose the interchangeability that formerly existed, but these hubs work so well that they have come to represent the new "standard." If you're not sure whether your bike has a cassette Freehub or a thread-on freewheel, Due to the location of the bearings in most Shimano Freehubs, the axle is supported closer to the ends.
Some newer Freehubs have the right-side bearing farther inboard, but these use oversize axles.
The Freehub incorporates the ratchet mechanism into the hub body (although the ratchet mechanism is still replaceable).

They’re particularly stuck on the idea that if a woman hops into bed with them quickly then she must have done this with lots of other men as well. After all, if everyone can have her, she can’t be all that special, can she?
